A group of veteran NRM cadres, who for years have been in the political trenches with Hon Sanjay Tana, have thanked President Museveni for making him the new Minister for Trade & Cooperatives. Led by Deo Matsanga and Gerald Simbata, the Mbale-based ruling party elders said that Tana has been a relentless and loyal NRM cadre for a long time and they are grateful that his efforts have finally been recognized and rewarded.
The duo coordinated Sanjay Tana’s campaigns in 2020 when he unsuccessfully campaigned in the whole country seeking to replace Mike Mukula as the party vice chairman for eastern region. The two were his campaign managers for greater Bugisu and Sebei, both of which Sanjay won with a landslide in that party election, which he controversially lost to Mukula.
Matsanga told media reporters in Kampala on Tuesday that in Tana, President Museveni picked a versatile and people-centered cadre who has what it takes to spearhead mobilization and re-energize the NRM universe in that part of Uganda.
He said Sanjay Tana had for years been directly impacting communities in Mbale, Tororo and other parts of Eastern Uganda through employing thousands of young people in his beverages, telecom dealerships and other business undertakings in the sub region.
He is also into media whereby he has a radio station in Mbale and also in Tororo, whose Municipality he previously represented as the area MP. He expressed optimism that the new assignment will embolden Sanjay Tana to do even more.
Matsanga added that the deployment amounted to the President recognizing and reciprocating the role the Tana family had played in the building of Uganda and offering leadership to their community over the years.
“By deploying him in Trade & Cooperatives, the President has given Sanjay Tana a Ministry which can enable him have immediate impact in our far eastern region because of the strong cooperatives and trading culture. Our area has millions of cooperators on whose behalf we are here to thank the President for choosing one of our very own,” Matsanga concluded.
