The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has expanded its taxpayer education campaign to TikTok through a new initiative dubbed “Buuza URA,” aimed at bringing tax information closer to the public using digital platforms familiar to ordinary Ugandans.
The initiative, launched through URA’s official TikTok page @URAUganda, is already gaining traction online. According to the Authority, a recently posted video introducing the campaign has attracted more than 60,000 views and generated over 100 questions from members of the public seeking clarity on taxes, customs procedures, and employment opportunities within URA.
Officials say the move is part of URA’s broader strategy to embrace new media platforms and communicate with taxpayers in languages and formats they easily understand.
Speaking in a short video shared on TikTok, Robert Kalumba, Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs at URA, explained the purpose of the initiative in Luganda, encouraging Ugandans to directly ask questions on issues affecting them.
Kalumba noted that many TikTok users frequently raise concerns about taxes on imported containers, different tax obligations, and how to secure jobs at URA. Through “Buuza URA,” he said, the Authority intends to provide direct responses from relevant officials, including the Commissioner General, Customs officers, and Human Resource teams.
The initiative also seeks to counter misinformation spread by self-proclaimed tax experts online by offering accurate and verified information directly from URA.
URA says the TikTok campaign builds on the success of its existing taxpayer engagement programs under the “Buuza Kamisona” brand, which already runs on UBC television, Bukedde newspaper, and New Vision platforms.
As part of its next phase, URA plans to roll out “Buuza Kamisona” programs on regional radio stations across the country in the coming financial year, allowing taxpayers to ask questions in their local languages.
The Authority also announced plans to organize “Buuza Kamisona Barazas,” where URA teams will meet taxpayers physically to discuss region-specific tax concerns and provide guidance on compliance.
URA says taxpayer education remains a continuous process and must evolve with changing communication trends to ensure citizens remain informed and engaged. Ugandans have been encouraged to continue sending their questions through the @URAUganda TikTok page.
