On Monday, Uganda Law Society called a news conference to declare solidarity with their persecuted member Erias Lukwago.
They called out Gen MK for violently picking up and going on to dehumanize a private attorney for doing his professional work as a defence advocate.
The lawyers demanded that Lukwago gets released within 24 hours or else they would institute their own court proceedings against the President’s son over blatant human rights violations.
The other option, as proclaimed by Uganda Law Society President Isaac Ssemakadde, is to declare a lawyers’ strike on Friday. The plan is to down tools and boycott all court sessions that day.
Renowned for taking no prisoners, Gen MK immediately took to his X handle and registered his contempt for Uganda Law Society. He simply stated “Noted & Rejected,” clearly implying he was totally unbothered.
Unbothered with potential consequences including alienating himself from majority Ugandans who had been singing his praises since cracking the whip on the much-loathed former Speaker Anita Among, Gen MK went on to explain that he has always despised groups like Uganda Law Society because he perceives their activism as running counter to the ideals of the NRM revolution which ushered his father Gen YK Museveni into power in 1986.
