Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Director of Corporate Affairs Fred Otunnu yesterday, joined the Rotary Club of Kampala-Ssese Islands at its Leadership Handover and Fellowship Ceremony held at Kati Kati, Lugogo, where he reaffirmed UCC’s commitment to empowering young people through digital inclusion and innovation.
The ceremony marked the formal transition of leadership from outgoing President Rtn. Deborah Itwau Ongwech to incoming President Rtn. Ethel Mamawi-Kayongo, bringing together members and partners to celebrate leadership, service and community impact.
As part of the event, Mr. Otunnu presented prizes and corporate gifts to winners of the Vocational Award for ICT & Innovation, recognising young people whose efforts demonstrate the potential of technology and innovation to create opportunities and transform communities.
In his remarks, Otunnu reaffirmed UCC’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of Uganda’s digital transformation reach all citizens, particularly young people. He emphasised the Commission’s vision of an inclusive digital society where no one is excluded from opportunities created by technology.
“No Ugandan should be left behind,” Otunnu said, encouraging the youth to take advantage of the growing opportunities in ICT and innovation to build successful futures.
He also challenged the young people to look beyond individual success by using their knowledge, skills and opportunities to make a positive contribution to their communities and society.
The engagement reflects UCC’s broader efforts to promote digital inclusion, innovation and skills development while encouraging partnerships that empower young Ugandans to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
The recognition of the ICT & Innovation award winners also highlighted the importance of nurturing talent and encouraging young people to explore technology as a pathway to entrepreneurship, employment and community development.
Through its participation in initiatives that promote youth empowerment and digital skills, UCC continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a connected and digitally empowered Uganda—one where technology creates opportunities for all.
