This morning, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is hosting a Validation Workshop to review key findings from a comprehensive national study on ICT usage in Ugandan schools, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening digital inclusion and supporting the integration of technology in education.
The study assessed ICT access, connectivity and teacher digital competence across Uganda’s education sector, providing important evidence on the progress made and areas that require further investment and support.
Conducted across 421 schools, the study engaged 4,278 respondents, including teachers, learners and parents. Their experiences and perspectives provide valuable insights into how ICT is currently being accessed and utilised in schools, as well as the opportunities available to enhance its contribution to teaching and learning.
The Validation Workshop brings together stakeholders to examine and validate the findings, ensuring that the evidence accurately reflects the realities on the ground and can inform practical interventions.
UCC’s leadership in this process demonstrates its role in promoting meaningful connectivity and ensuring that the benefits of Uganda’s digital transformation extend to the education sector. By generating evidence on ICT access and usage, the Commission is helping to identify areas where improved infrastructure, connectivity and digital skills can make the greatest impact.
Discussions will also focus on practical pathways for strengthening digital infrastructure and equipping teachers with the skills needed to effectively integrate ICT into the classroom.
The initiative highlights UCC’s broader commitment to building a digitally empowered Uganda where schools, teachers and learners can take full advantage of technology to improve education outcomes.
As Uganda continues to expand its digital ecosystem, the study and validation process provide a strong foundation for targeted interventions, informed policymaking and collaboration among education and technology stakeholders.
