Residents in several parts of Kampala and neighboring districts are expected to experience a 24-hour water supply interruption as the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) undertakes system upgrade works and routine maintenance at the Katosi Water Treatment Plant.
In a public notice issued Tuesday, May 19, NWSC-Kampala Water said the planned interruption will begin at 7:00am on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and run until 8:00am on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
According to the utility provider, the temporary shutdown is intended to facilitate system upgrades and routine maintenance aimed at improving water supply efficiency from the Katosi treatment facility, one of the major sources of water for Kampala and surrounding areas.
Areas expected to be affected include Katosi, Kisoga, Mukono, Seeta, Mbalala, Namugongo, Namanve, Sonde, Kamuli, Kyaliwajala, Bulindo, Nsasa, Mulawa, Naalya, Ntinda, Kisaasi, Najeera, Luteete, Gayaza, as well as parts of Kamwokya, Kireka and Mbuya and surrounding neighborhoods.
The interruption is expected to affect both residential and commercial consumers, particularly in fast-growing urban centers that rely heavily on piped water from the Katosi system.
NWSC advised customers in the affected areas to store enough water ahead of the interruption and use the available supply sparingly during the maintenance period.
“We regret to inform our valued customers and the general public that there will be interruptions in water supply,” the corporation said in the notice, adding that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to improve service reliability.
The corporation apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for patience as technical teams conduct the maintenance works.
Meanwhile, NWSC also reported separate water supply interruptions in Kungu, Buwaate and surrounding areas, where customers are currently experiencing dry taps due to emergency repair works on a section of transmission mains at the Kasangati Road junction.
The utility provider said engineers are on site handling the emergency works and pledged to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
The latest interruption comes as Kampala’s water demand continues to grow amid rapid urbanization, putting pressure on infrastructure and increasing the need for periodic maintenance and system upgrades to sustain reliable service delivery.
