By Mulengera Reporters

Over the weekend, a group of leaders from Teso (MPs, the clergy & cultural leaders) travelled to Nakaseke-Kapeeka where they spent hours interacting with their host Gen Salim Saleh.

They pleaded with him to use his clout to intervene and have the restrictions on their Anita Among relaxed so that she is able to once in time go to Parliament and her birthplace in Bukedea.

The group had previously visited the Nakasero residence to see Anita Among who they told Saleh requested them to reach out to whoever they can and plead her case since her efforts to reach the President had so far been unsuccessful.

Led by Bukedea County MP David Okweere Bechaam, the leaders explained that Among was scared she is going to lose her Bukedea Woman MP once she misses 15 consecutive plenary sessions.

That she is requesting to be allowed to make occasional appearances at Parliament to avoid being forced out for breaching the 15 consecutive sittings rule. Gen Saleh in response told them he personally had nothing against Anita Among because she was a personal friend who visited him frequently and treated him very generously during her hey days.

Investigative journalist Dean Lubowa, who was sneaked into the meeting by Gen Saleh’s own staff ostensibly because they wanted aspects of the meeting publicized, says that the delegation members told Saleh how their Anita Among is starving and might die of hunger in her house one of these days because she lacks adequate supplies.

That she is in this destitute situation because all her bank accounts were frozen by government meaning she can’t even access her modest salary as the Bukedea Woman MP. Saleh was told that her request is to be allowed to travel to her village in Bukedea and be able to get some food to feed on at her Nakasero residence. Even on this one, Gen Saleh made it clear his hands remain tied and wasn’t of any help.

He also made it clear he doesn’t want to antagonize some of the very powerful people whose desire it is to see her decisively punished. He revealed that their anger remains very high and her supporters ought to understand that and allow them time for the anger, which he joked might take 7 years or more, to gradually come down.

Saava made it clear that Gen Saleh implied to his guests that it was better for them to back off and let Anita Among carry her cross as they find what role they can play in the President’s socio-economic transformation operation which is aimed at enlarging Uganda’s economy from the current GDP of $65bn to $500bn in the next 14 years between now and 2040. That this is now Museveni’s biggest priority and not corruption investigations victims like Anita Among. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
