Even when his DP archrival Norbert Mao claims that his 2025 bid for party presidency was funded by Anita Among, the Bukoto Central MP Richard Sebamala has publicly denied ever being a friend/ally to the former Speaker.
Appearing on CBS where he was interviewed for the night political talk show, Sebamala denied ever being a close friend or ally of Anita Among; clarifying that he only knew and related with her like any other workmate he came across and got to know while doing his job as the representative of the Bukoto people during the 11th Parliament (2021-2026).
He had just referred to the Anita Among’s ongoing investigations to demonstrate the larger point that what is currently happening in Uganda to big people like Kizza Besigye and Erias Lukwago is nothing but political persecution. He said no one can claim to be immune to the Museveni-era political persecution if the same can happen to Anita Among who is supposed to be number three in the NRM. “But that one [Anita Among] used to be your very good friend,” the moderator teased, to which Sebamala instantly responded with a big no.
As if to portray himself as a victim as opposed to being a beneficiary of the Anita Among patronage, Sebamala also scorned some of the MPs from Teso sub region who have lately been crying foul over the Anita Among persecution. Sebamala said those very MPs from Teso enjoyed and claimed to be very big and powerful at Parliament and despised MPs from other regions, because their own (Anita Among) was Speaker.
He said each time there was an issue about Teso, it got priority for as long as the Speaker was Anita Among who he claimed equally over prioritized and favored MPs from her home area. He added that as an MP from Buganda he had nothing to lose or shed tears for simply because Anita Among, who the public says tormented many, has finally fallen.
He said that during her tenure as Speaker, issues of Buganda and other non-Teso areas weren’t adequately prioritized. He advised the MPs from Teso to carry their cross instead of wasting time castigating elected leaders from elsewhere for keeping quiet and not coming out to show solidarity and condemn the perceived persecution of Anita Among. During the same political program, Sebamala castigated NUP’s Joel Ssenyonyi who he said hadn’t been a good LoP.
He accused him of being inward-looking and alienating opposition MPs from other parties as opposed to rallying people together. He broadly castigated NUP for failing to offer effective opposition leadership, while contrasting them with what used to happen when Dr. Kizza Besigye was the overall opposition head. Actually, already a good number of bloggers in Kampala are out amplifying calls for the Denis Namara-sponsored proposal to be enacted into law so that Richard Sebamala becomes the first elected LoP to lead the opposition on the Parliament front.
In a related development, former Kyengera-Nsangi Mayor/LC3 Chairman singer Mathias Walukagga has refused to shed any tears for Anita Among. In a YouTube interview, Walukagga said he can’t have any compassion for the Bukedea Woman MP even if she sinks into coma. He said many more politically useful people have lost life at a much young age than Anita Among’s and still life continued.
He gave the example of Mohammed Segirinya who he said was much more useful to Uganda than Anita Among who he said was a key architect of the conspiracy which resulted into his removal from the Kyadondo East ballot paper for the post-Medard Segona MP Seat, which he says he was very sure to win. Mathias Walukagga said Anita Among is one of the Medard Segona allies he will never forgive; the others being Mathias Mpuuga and the EC’s Chairman Simon Byabakama.
He said Anita Among was the chief strategist behind his removal from the race and this is the reason he wouldn’t hesitate even praying upon God to accelerate her death. Former Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko a few days ago announced she was very ill, which Mathias Walukagga says was very good news to his ears.
Mohammed Nsereko had called upon Ugandans to pray for Anita Among’s recovery, something Mathias Walukagga vigorously opposed during his controversial podcast. He preferred that Ugandans pray for Uganda to become a better country for posterity rather than wasting their energy on Anita Among, who he said was a very bad leader who only used the Speakership role to destroy, as opposed to bringing up, leaders.
