Roke Telkom has called for stronger collaboration between government, telecommunications companies, financial institutions, technology providers and other stakeholders to build a secure and resilient digital economy in Uganda.

The call was made at the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference, organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the theme, “Securing Uganda’s Digital Future: Collaboration, Resilience and Trust.” The two-day conference, held on 11th – 12th August2026 at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, brought together key players from Uganda’s digital ecosystem to address the growing cybersecurity risks accompanying the country’s digital transformation.

Roke Telkom was among the official sponsors of the conference, joining other industry stakeholders in supporting the national dialogue on cybersecurity and digital resilience.

Speaking during a panel discussion on business continuity and national resilience, Peter Muhumuza, CEO of Roke Telkom, highlighted the increasingly sophisticated cyber threats facing individuals, businesses and critical infrastructure. “Every single day, malicious actors attempt to breach individual mobile phones, home Wi-Fi networks and enterprise servers. While service providers actively monitor, detect and mitigate threats behind the scenes, complete perimeter defence is impossible. Security awareness and rapid incident response must be embedded in every organisation’s operational routine,” he said.

“Cybersecurity can no longer be treated as the sole responsibility of IT departments or individual organisations. Uganda’s interconnected digital ecosystem requires collaboration, information sharing and shared responsibility across both the public and private sectors,” he added.

He also called for greater investment in local cybersecurity expertise and software innovation, noting that strengthening local capacity can help Uganda reduce dependency on imported security solutions and make effective cyber protection more accessible.

Roke Telkom is responding to these challenges by integrating security into its connectivity and digital service offering.

“At Roke Telkom, we believe security must be built into the connectivity layer. Our responsibility is not only to connect Uganda, but to help make that connectivity safer for the people and businesses that depend on it,” said Muhumuza.

Through its portfolio, Roke Telkom provides solutions designed for households, SMEs and large organisations, including Roke Protect, which offers features such as parental controls and malware filtering, as well as managed and enterprise-grade security solutions.

At the conference exhibition, Roke Telkom showcased its portfolio of connectivity and digital solutions, including Roke Protect, Roke Cloud, Travel eSIM, Roke Plus and Roke Enterprise, alongside cybersecurity capabilities supported by technology partners including Sophos, Cohesity, F5 Networks, Nexus Guard, Bitdefender and ABQ.

Roke Telkom’s participation as an official sponsor and exhibitor reinforces its commitment to supporting a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem as Uganda accelerates its digital transformation.

About Roke Telkom: Roke Telkom is a Ugandan telecommunications company that has been operating since 2006. Licensed by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Roke Telkom provides connectivity, enterprise, cloud and digital services to businesses, institutions and communities across Uganda. In 2010, the company expanded its portfolio with a Public Infrastructure Provider licence, strengthening its role in delivering connectivity and technology solutions across the country.
