In the dead of the night of Thursday, unknown thugs broke into the offices of National Council of Sports (NCS) in Lugogo near Kololo and took off with sensitive documents.
The building is well fortified and yet there are no indications that they struggled to break in. All the access points require biometric clearance and authorization as everything there is automated. The fact that thugs accessed offices, including of the NCS Executive Secretary Bernard Patrick Ogwel, without having to forcefully break anywhere is indicative of undeniable internal connivance.
Investigators are seriously looking into the possibility of this being an insider-enabled job for the thugs to have accessed the premises effortlessly.
What is ironical is that the offices of NCS, which is at the center of organizing AFCON 2017, which Uganda will be co-hosting with other regional countries, are under heavy Police security 24/7 and there is growing curiosity as to why such a break-in would be successfully staged without the officers deployed on the ground there being able to put up any fight at all.
This isn’t the first time such an incident has happened targeting NCS offices which are located just a few meters from the Secretariat of the AFCON Local Organizing Committee (LOC), which is headed by the First Lady Janet Museveni in her capacity as the Senior Minister of Education & Sports.
