The UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo bitterly clashed with former Leader of Opposition Prof Ogenga Latigo over the authenticity of a photo of a tortured and badly-bruised Muwanga Kivumbi, which has been trending on social media.
Nyombi Thembo says that he gave the photo to his team of AI verification experts who subjected it to rigorous assessment and fact-checking. Thembo says the assessment revealed that the photo had been “digitally-enhanced” and therefore inauthentic.
The EC boss says manipulated as it is, the photo created a lot of unjustified and unfounded public anger against people in government and security circles. That the former LoP Prof Ogenga Latigo (2006-2011) is among those unsuspecting members of the public who fell for the kiwaani.
Nyombi Thembo says he directly took on and clashed with Latigo on the 9th Parliament former MPs’ WhatsApp forum. That Latigo referred to the photo to demand for answers regarding what has befallen his motherland Uganda.
“I first went to his [Latigo’s] inbox and took up the matter with him and I was surprised how a whole University Professor can fall for something like that,” Thembo said in a video clip that went viral on the internet.
