NWSC Takes Action Against Rising Water Meter Theft: Public Responds Positively!

By Mulengera Reporters

In a bid to combat the alarming increase in water meter thefts, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has issued a strong public warning to its customers. In a post shared on Facebook, NWSC called on residents to take proactive steps to secure their water meters and protect them from theft, particularly by metal fabricators and scrap dealers looking to profit from stolen goods.

The corporation encouraged customers to either ensure their meters were visible and securely installed or to consider locking them in a meter chamber. They also urged the public to report any suspicious activity they might observe in their neighborhoods, inviting them to contact NWSC quickly using the hashtag #waterman for immediate assistance. The post emphasized that together, the community and NWSC could work to prevent meter thefts and ensure consistent water access for everyone.

The public response to NWSC’s initiative was generally supportive, with many people expressing appreciation for the corporation’s efforts to address this growing issue. Several Facebook users shared their own experiences, expressing their concerns and offering feedback that could help improve the service.

One customer, Rose Nabweteme, thanked NWSC for their attention to the issue but shared her frustration regarding a recent service interruption. She explained that her water meter had been disconnected one Friday morning, and despite paying the required amount just a short time later, she was still without water. Rose mentioned that she had informed the staff about her payment, but unfortunately, the issue remained unresolved. This feedback highlighted the importance of clear communication and quick resolution, an area NWSC could further improve.

Another customer, Rhodes, raised a concern about the installation of recycled meters. He suggested that NWSC consider providing customers with new meters instead of recycled ones, since they are paying for new connections. He believed this would enhance the trust customers place in NWSC’s services and ensure better customer satisfaction.

A third user, Richard Lampard, shared a positive experience in which his family faced a meter theft but was able to work with NWSC to resolve the issue. Richard recalled that after the meter was stolen, he and his family followed the proper procedures, contacted NWSC, and even involved the police. He praised NWSC for their cooperation in providing a temporary water connection while they investigated the theft. Richard acknowledged the challenges involved in these situations but appreciated NWSC’s willingness to support affected customers.

The outpouring of feedback demonstrates that while there are still areas for improvement, many customers recognize NWSC’s efforts to address the issue of meter theft and provide assistance when needed. The corporation’s initiative has sparked a much-needed conversation about water security, and as NWSC continues to listen to its customers, there is hope for an even better, more efficient service in the future.
