National Water and Sewerage Corporation has on Friday morning confirmed the successful completion of routine maintenance and system reconfiguration works at the Katosi Water Works, paving the way for the gradual restoration of water supply to thousands of customers in Kampala Metropolitan and surrounding areas.
Through its social media platforms, the corporation announced that its engineers had finalized the planned upgrade and maintenance activities at the Katosi Water Treatment Plant after several hours of intensive work that had initially been delayed by heavy overnight rainfall in Katosi.
In a public statement issued Friday morning, NWSC said teams were now progressively charging the water network to stabilize the system and restore supply to all affected customers as quickly as possible.
“We are pleased to announce that the routine maintenance and system reconfiguration works at Katosi Water Works have been successfully completed. Our teams are now progressively charging the network with water to stabilize the system and restore supply to all affected customers as quickly as possible,” the utility said.
The maintenance exercise had temporarily disrupted water supply in several areas served by the Katosi system. Among the affected locations were Katosi, Kisoga, Mukono, Seeta, Mbalala, Namugongo, Namanve, Sonde, parts of Kireka, Kamuli, Kyaliwajala, Bulindo, Nsasa and Mulawa.
Earlier, NWSC had informed customers that ongoing system upgrade works and routine maintenance at the treatment plant had suffered setbacks following a heavy downpour experienced in Katosi on Thursday night. According to the corporation, the bad weather slowed down the progress of technical operations at the facility, forcing engineers to extend working hours to complete the exercise.
“Our team of specialist engineers worked hard to overcome the setback and restore water supply as soon as possible,” the statement added.
Residents in some of the affected areas had expressed concern over prolonged water shortages that disrupted household activities and business operations. Some schools, restaurants and small-scale enterprises reportedly struggled to maintain normal operations during the interruption.
However, NWSC reassured customers that the restoration process had already commenced, although some areas could experience delayed reconnection as the network stabilizes and reservoirs refill.
The corporation also thanked customers for their patience and understanding throughout the maintenance period, emphasizing that the works were necessary to improve system efficiency, reliability and long-term water supply management in the rapidly growing metropolitan areas served by the Katosi system.
The Katosi Water Works remains one of the key facilities supplying water to Kampala and neighboring districts, especially fast-growing urban centers in Mukono and Wakiso districts.
