At the upcoming IPOD Summit meeting, Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) is expected to be represented by a delegation of 40 officials who will be led by the Ag President Lena Zedriga.
However, there is growing uncertainty after some of the top Executive Committee members who are supposed to accompany Zedriga developed cold feet fearing that attending such a televised meeting will cause them to sit under one tent which Gen YK Museveni of NRM.
Members are afraid that this will create for them PR problems among their voters and they have pleaded with organizers to excuse them from being compelled to attend. Organizers have indicated to the NUP top leadership that the top Executive Committee members be mixed up with some MPs who hold positions of leadership in the party’s caucus. Yet even some of the MPs have developed cold feet fearing to be criticized by foot soldiers who tend to equate attending such presidential level meetings to being bribed and compromised by Museveni.
Sources say that the Secretary General of NUP David Lewis Rubongoya intends to table this IPOD issue at the forthcoming meeting of party officials to try and find common ground on how the resultant PR problems arising from NUP’s participation in such IPOD meetings will be mitigated.
But as all that is happening, reliable sources say that, majority top Executive Members and MPs are reluctant to join Zedriga to go for such a meeting which will be chaired by DP President Norbert Mao in his capacity as the current IPOD Summit Chairman, having taken over the same from Gen YK Museveni sometime back.
Mao believes that a lot of issues can be discussed and resolved during that IPOD Summit including the human rights situation in the country, Gen MK’s tweets and the Denis Namara bill which seeks to trim Joel Senyonyi and force him out of the LoP position in favor of an elected LoP.
