The Board of Directors and Management of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) have concluded a two-day joint staff-board retreat in Entebbe aimed at reviewing and agreeing on the agency’s priorities for the 2026/27 financial year.
The retreat brought together members of the Board and Management to assess key areas of the agency’s work and identify activities and investments required to improve performance and service delivery.
A major focus of the discussions was the National Animal Breeding Strategy and Action Plan, which is expected to guide efforts to strengthen animal breeding and genetic improvement in the livestock sector.
The participants also reviewed strategies for improving performance and investment across NAGRC&DB farms and ranches. Discussions examined how the agency can enhance the productivity and utilisation of its facilities while supporting its broader mandate in livestock development.
Strengthening the National Data Bank was another key area considered during the retreat. The discussions highlighted the importance of reliable and well-managed data in supporting animal breeding programmes, planning, decision-making and monitoring within the livestock sector.
The retreat also addressed livestock multiplication, alongside priorities presented by various departments, units, programmes and projects within the agency.
According to NAGRC&DB, the two-day engagement provided an opportunity for the Board and Management to jointly review priorities and reach agreement on key activities and investments for the 2026/27 financial year.
The agency said the process is intended to strengthen a shared approach to implementing its programmes and improving organisational performance.
The retreat comes as NAGRC&DB continues to implement its mandate of supporting the development and management of Uganda’s animal genetic resources, including breeding, multiplication and related data management activities.
By bringing the Board and Management together to align priorities, the agency expects to improve coordination and focus resources on activities that contribute to better performance and delivery of its mandate during the coming financial year.
