The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) has officially launched five key institutional documents aimed at strengthening animal breeding, improving service delivery and enhancing organizational performance.
The documents launched include the Agency Client Charter, Service Delivery Standards, National Animal Breeding Strategy and Action Plan (NABSAP), Five-Year Strategic and Investment Plan, and the Communication and Knowledge Management Strategy.
The documents were officially launched by the Minister of State for Animal Industry, Hon. Bright K. Rwamirama, PhD, who urged NAGRC&DB staff to fully implement the standards, strategies and commitments contained in them.
Minister Rwamirama emphasized that the success of the documents would be measured by their implementation and the outcomes they deliver. He called on staff to ensure that the commitments translate into improved service delivery, greater accountability and tangible benefits for farmers and other stakeholders.
He stressed that the newly launched frameworks should serve as practical tools for strengthening institutional performance and addressing the needs of farmers and stakeholders in Uganda’s livestock sector.
The launch brought together representatives from government institutions, farmers’ organisations and other key stakeholders. The Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNYFA) was represented at the event, underscoring the importance of farmer participation in improving animal breeding and related services.
The Office of the Prime Minister was also represented, with its representative delivering remarks on behalf of the Deputy Head of Public Service. A representative from the National Planning Authority also attended the event.
Remarks were further delivered by the NAGRC&DB Executive Director and the Chairperson of the NAGRC&DB Board of Directors.
The launch marks an important step in NAGRC&DB’s efforts to strengthen institutional performance, advance coordinated animal breeding and improve service delivery.
The National Animal Breeding Strategy and Action Plan provides a framework for coordinated efforts in animal genetic improvement, while the Client Charter and Service Delivery Standards set out the institution’s commitments to service users.
The Five-Year Strategic and Investment Plan and the Communication and Knowledge Management Strategy are expected to further guide institutional planning, investment, communication and knowledge sharing.
With the documents now officially launched, their effective implementation will be key to translating the commitments into measurable improvements in animal breeding services and benefits for farmers and other stakeholders.
