At a recent Cabinet session, Gen Museveni informed his Ministers that he follows events on social media and that’s how he became aware of the public quarrelling between his Ministers Gen Kahinda Otafiire and Chris Baryomunsi on one hand and people in the MK universe on the other.
He said he wasn’t comfortable to go into passing judgment regarding who was right and who was wrong but going forward, he preferred that Gen MK’s positive attributes and sacrificial contributions towards Uganda’s pacification, including prominently participating in anti-Kony operations, don’t get lost in his social media chaos.
He implored his two senior Ministers to work towards de-escalation while allowing him time to organize a harmonization meeting involving them and Gen MK with himself as a mediator. “We shall sit on the table and talk through our differences as men and I’m sure that’s something we are going to resolve,” Museveni reportedly said as majority of his Ministers pensively looked on.
And this is how a source rationalized the Ministers’ collective silence: “When the discussion is about Mama, the CDF or even Gen Salim, I can you assure no one in that Cabinet can dare say anything after Mzee has signalled his preference.”
As he completed his remarks about this MK subject, Gen Museveni (who these days comes around and speaks at the beginning or end of such Cabinet sessions and thereafter go away) implored Baryomunsi and Otafiire to be open-minded and willing to positively respond the day he will get hold of Gen MK and call on them at short notice to turn up for the harmonization meeting.
He said that Gen MK just needs to be understood, otherwise he isn’t the monstrous General whose depiction one gets upon mere reading of his no-holds-barred social media posts. Perhaps the President got time and engaged his son; because lately Gen MK’s tweets towards Gen Otafiire have been more complementary than had been the case previously.
