Ugandan legal heavyweight Fred Mukasa Mbidde has declared an all-out court battle against musician Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, over allegations that he defamed former Miss Rwanda 2016, Jolly Mutesi.
Through Mbidde & Co. Advocates, Mutesi has served Bebe Cool with a formal notice of imminent legal proceedings, accusing him of publishing false and damaging statements linking her to an alleged fraud scheme.
According to the June 17, 2026 legal notice, Bebe Cool allegedly used his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on the night of June 16 to claim that Mutesi was involved in scamming activities that had reportedly targeted him in 2025.
However, Mutesi, through her lawyers, has categorically denied ever having any dealings or communication with the singer and insists that the telephone number cited by Bebe Cool has no connection to her whatsoever.
“The allegations are entirely fictitious, unfounded and devoid of any evidentiary basis,” the lawyers state in the notice.
The legal team further argues that the number in question had already been publicly identified as belonging to fraudsters as early as October 2024. They point to social media posts warning the public about scammers allegedly using the number to solicit money under false pretences.
Mutesi’s lawyers also claim that she had previously issued public advisories warning that imposters were misusing her identity for fraudulent activities, suggesting that Bebe Cool either knew or ought to have known that the claims he published were false.
The lawyers accuse the artist of committing defamation and injurious falsehood, saying the publication has exposed their client to public ridicule, damaged her reputation and caused significant personal and professional harm.
In a strongly worded demand, Mbidde has ordered Bebe Cool to immediately stop making further allegations, delete the disputed publications, issue a full and unqualified public retraction, publish an apology approved by the lawyers, and disclose the source of the information he relied upon.
The demands must be met within 48 hours.
Failure to comply, the lawyers warn, will trigger immediate legal action without further notice.
“We hold firm instructions to institute immediate and uncompromising legal proceedings against you,” the notice states.
The legal notice further warns that Bebe Cool’s actions could expose him to additional civil and criminal liability under laws governing cyber harassment, misuse of electronic communications and reputational harm.
The emerging legal showdown now sets the stage for what could become one of the most closely watched celebrity court battles in the region, with Mutesi’s legal team insisting they are prepared to pursue all available remedies to clear her name.
As of publication, Bebe Cool had not publicly responded to the legal notice.
Since these are allegations contained in a legal notice, the story attributes all claims to the lawyers and avoids presenting unproven accusations as established facts.
