Justice Baguma Behaves Like A Prosecutor in Besigye Case, Declares PFF Party
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

 By Mulengera Reporters

Through former Buikwe South MP Lulume Bayiga, the PFF party has declared an aggressive media war against Justice Emmanuel Baguma who stands castigated for his willful glaring failure/refusal to handle Dr. Kizza Besigye’s treason trial appropriately.

Addressing reporters at PFF headquarters in Kampala, Lulume claimed that the demeanor and the crippling orders he has kept issuing out have clearly depicted Baguma as a biased judge whose ruling has already been written before the trial even commences.

Lulume asserted that Baguma hasn’t only exhibited extreme bias and an angry demeanor towards defense lawyers, who he shamelessly keeps arguing with and shutting up, but has also been overtly aiding the prosecution lawyers to enable them make their case to arrive at the outrageous outcomes which he has already preconceived.

Lulume, who serves as the PFF Deputy President for Buganda region, said Baguma shamelessly argues with the defense lawyers, instead of listening to them make their clients’ case, as if he is part of the prosecution team. That Baguma always looks on angrily as defense lawyers make submissions, which betrays his deep-seated hatred and resentment for Dr. Besigye.

He added that Baguma cuts a demeanor of a grey-haired man who wants to cry each time the defense lawyers make eloquent arguments while countering the prosecution team. To him, this shows a referee who has chosen sides and is clearly not capable of being a neutral arbiter anymore.

Lulume said that Baguma demonstrated personal interest in the matter when he refused to recuse himself from the case after the accused persons repeatedly  made it clear they aren’t comfortable with his adjudication capabilities. Flanked by other PFF giants like Ingrid Turinawe, Doreen Nyanjura, Fred Turyamuhweza, Harold Kaija and others, Lulume said clearly no justice can be expected to emanate from a court presided over by such a flat-footed judge.

He also castigated Justice Baguma for angrily storming out of court on Monday as Dr. Kizza Besigye, the principal accused person, was addressing him registered his due process-related concerns and fears. Ordinarily, the judge ought to have formally adjourned the case before marching out but Justice Baguma merely stormed out of his own court as Besigye was in the middle of his address. Lulume says all this demonstrates the trial judge’s deeply-seated hatred for the accused person.

The unusually very combative Lulume went as far as asserting that even a good grade I magistrate is more capable of delivering justice than Justice Baguma who he also faulted for shaming fellow grey-haired men. He said everything must deliberately be done property, regarding procedural concerns, because the treason offence with which Dr. KB is charged carries a maximum sentence of death in case of a conviction.

Lulume said there was a lot of personal information people in the PFF universe have been getting, which has prompted and made them feel justified to inquire into Justice Baguma’s education background and Ugandan citizenship. He said they now 100% agree with ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde who recently described Justice Baguma as one of the incompetent cadre judges who deliberately were planted onto the bench to purposely kill off what remains of the Ugandan judiciary.
