During the tribute-paying session on Wednesday, Minister and Kyotera County MP-elect Haruna Kasolo praised the fallen Kalangala Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli (of NUP) to have been a very good person who got along well with everyone and expressed his desire to have all the MPs turn up for her burial in Luwero.
Kasolo said, however, he was fearful physical violence could erupt from the NUP violent supporters chiefly targeting NRM MPs and Ministers. He implored the Speaker of Parliament, which is meeting all the expenses, to ensure that VIP mourners who happen to be Museveni’s supporters are safe and aren’t molested by NUP ‘goons’ at the burial grounds in Luwero.
Kasolo, who has recreation businesses in Kalangala and was a very good friend of Nakimuli, said he was fearful that the anti-NRM violence similar to what he claimed to have happened in Kalangala where pro-NUP mourners allegedly attacked the RDC who had come to represent government, will play out at the Luwero send off event, if not much worse, given the area political volatility in favour of the Kavule-based party.
Before he could even finish his submission, Anita Among (in her usual militant style) interjected making it clear everyone must turn up and send off Nakimuli whose body she said was now property of Parliament because ‘she has always been one of us.’ She added: “In fact, I’m personally going to be there at that burial and see what those people can do about it. I’m a Ugandan and her body is now the property of Parliament.”
Among and Kasolo both seemed to be having their mind on the humiliation Parliament’s own representatives suffered last year at the Masaka City suburb of Kadugala during Mohammed Segirinya’s burial where area MP Mathias Mpuuga, who had been facilitated to represent Parliament in his capacity as the Commissioner, was molested, humiliated and bullied as a pro-Kyagulanyi crowd took over everything and turned the send off into an NUP political carnival. It was implied there would be adequate security at the Luwero burial grounds to ensure that those NUP foot soldiers plotting any kind of mischief are made to die in their movie.
Speaking next, Katumba Wamala vigorously contradicted and pushed back against fellow Minister Kasolo who he faulted for telling lies and misrepresenting the people of Kalangala who the General described as decent and broad-minded to the extent that none of them can ever participate in attacking any mourners basing on one’s political views and opinion.
Katumba Wamala, who hails from Seese himself and took Nakimuli to be his daughter whose great leadership credentials he praised in his eulogy, referred to the outgoing Kyamuswa County MP Moses Kabusu of the PFF party as his witness to prove that Haruna Kasolo hadn’t been truthful in accusing the Kalangala mourners of engaged in politically-motivated violence.
