Ex-MP Kaddu Mukasa Rejoins Kabaka’s CBS Radio! Could Kasibante Moses and Moses Kabusu Be Next?

By Mulengera Reporters

Veteran broadcaster Ssozi Kaddu Mukasa, who famously quit and went to become Mityana South MP for 10 years as an independent legislator but who always caucused with the opposition, has eaten a humble pie and rejoined Kabaka’s CBS fm radio as a news anchor.

Management has assigned him to relieve the overworked Wamala Balunaba on the 9am bulletin. Kaddu Mukasa, whose position as MP got threatened and proved untenable after failing to shine to the levels his electors had expected, had earlier on resumed broadcasting as a political talk show host on BBS TV.

He says his return to CBS is indicative of the wisdom embedded in the famous Luganda saying of ‘wova toyombye wootera okudda.’ Loosely translated, this depicts the fact that it’s easier to rejoin colleagues and be accepted once your departure was peaceful and not acrimonious.

But more than 50% of the current CBS listeners are Gen Zs who never knew Kaddu Mukasa in his hey days as a leading news anchor on CBS. He is rejoining more than 15 years after his first departure. Many such Gen Z listeners have been used to something different (the Balunaba style) and the now low-energy Kaddu Mukasa will have a lot of catching up to do before meeting their expectations. Many Gen Zs are of the view that Balunaba is way much better, never mind that Kaddu Mukasa is the one who inspired and mentored him into the job of news anchoring.

But Kaddu Mukasa’s return has created optimism among some of the CBS listeners commenting online. They are speculating and anticipating that Moses Kasibante (who did 10 years as Rubaga North MP) could consider falling suit and rejoining the CBS news department. Kasibante, like Kaddu Mukasa, did 10 years as MP and is currently not that much engaged apart from serving as spokesperson for Mathias Mpuuga’s DF Party, which isn’t a full time job. He did well as a news anchor at CBS radio, which was his place of work up to 2010.

He may have to abdicate at DF in case he is desirous to rejoin news anchoring on Kabaka’s radio. They are doing this out of passion and desire to serve their king and not necessarily for money. Having been MPs, they are now used to bigger money than the CBS news department can afford. Kabusu Moses, who has done several terms as MP Kyamuswa County in Kalangala, is another ex-CBS employee who some listeners have demanded should rejoin having lost his MP seat in 2026.

The trio, like Betty Nambooze, got their initial political capital while serving on CBS whose platform enabled them to get themselves known to voters and they went ahead to become political stars. Nambooze was at CBS as an employee before riding on the resultant momentum to secure the Mukono Municipality MP Seat, which she first grabbed via the 2010 by-elections.

Wakiso out going LC5 Chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika is another CBS product who went on to scale political heights. He has done 15 years as Chairman for Uganda’s most economically viable and politically influential district after Kampala.
