The Kimanya-Kabonera MP Dr. Abed Bwanika on Saturday appeared on CBS radio under the moderation of Meddie Nsereko, the veteran journalist who hosts Parliament Yaffe.
Upon coming under a lot of pressure from callers led by Makolo Kavuma, Promoter Tamale and Sseremba Jimmy, Bwanika became angry and resorted to demonising the NUP party like never before.
He asserted that NUP is full of moles deliberately working for Gen Museveni in order to prevent a more serious opposition formation from emerging. Bwanika castigated Kyagulanyi for the manner in which his birth day was recently celebrated before hundreds of beret-wearing young men who even staged a military-like parade.
Bwanika, a hater of the NUP Secretary General because he shielded Kyagulanyi against being influenced by fortune-hunting veterans like him, claimed that the birth day parade was instigated by David Lewis Rubongoya in order to enable security to identify the most militant boys in the current NUP establishment who will subsequently be kidnapped and locked up for violating army law.
Bwanika claimed that Rubongoya wanted them to be caught on camera wearing the prohibited army material, so that security can harvest them in the coming weeks and months yet these are fighters the struggle will need some day. He claimed that even those still locked up have been confiding in him and their relatives how Rubongoya played a role in their apprehension some 4 years ago.
“You know there is a lot I always withhold because I don’t like to alarm people on Kabaka’s radio,” Bwanika said. “But let me say just this one. Those boys are saying their arrest was preceded by either a phone call or a visit to their respective homes by the Secretary General of NUP. He is back to do the same thing again. This time he has paraded an even larger number of fighters who are going to be picked up in the upcoming operation and we are once again going to be in the same tears. 80% of them are boys from Buganda and Busoga. My question is why is Rubongoya doing this to our sons as if there are no young people in Western Uganda?”
In saying this, Bwanika wasn’t entirely being truthful because Bobi Yanga, one of the prominent political prisoners that remain locked up, is from Western Uganda (a Mutoro from Tooro) and not from Buganda or Busoga. Personally, Rubongoya has consistently defended himself against such attacks and says that Bwanika doesn’t like him not because he has done anything wrong but merely because of where he comes from.
Bwanika also had no kind words for Fred Nyanzi demanding to know why in his case, he put on a white overall and not red like the rest during that Kyagulanyi birth day parade. He also claimed that the young boys on the mock army parade were deliberately instigated by Rubongoya to “not only wear berets and army-like boots which looked similar but to also sing military songs.”
The phone callers challenged Bwanika to explain why he used to wear them if indeed NUP overalls are a bad thing to wear. Luba Kyoya Ssemwanga claimed to have five photos of Bwanika wearing the same NUP overall at five different political functions. Some callers castigated Meddie Nsereko for having vandetta against NUP and it’s Principal by always bringing Bwanika to attack party leaders without having anyone in the studio to counter his propaganda.
One of the callers put out a bet making it clear that Dr. Bwanika will lose his Kimanya-Kabonera seat come 2026. “If he ever wins and comes back as MP, I will stop listening to CBS and also stop calling into its programs,” the young man said as a sarcastically laughing Bwanika made it clear he was no longer NUP and will soon prove he can win elections in Kimanya without Bobi Wine’s endorsement.
BWANIKA PUSHES BACK:
The controversial MP claimed that the procedure through which Erias Nalukoola became the NUP flag bearer for Kawempe North depicted a party that has no internal democracy.
That Kawempe residents were disenfranchised because Nalukoola was picked by the Secretariat as opposed to party structures voting him. He said even the public debate was meant to dupe voters of Kawempe because Bobi Wine and his wife had already decided. The callers pushed back demanding to know why Bwanika never complained in 2021 when he became NUP flag bearer for Kimanya-Kabonera through a less transparent internal party process.
“How come you didn’t complain and denounce the process as unfair?” one caller questioned Bwanika. He responded by saying that regardless of the process, in his case, the NUP card was well deserved because of the money and time he had invested in Kyagulanyi.
“I was a big man in the founding of NUP. I used to chair many People Power meetings including the one where we decided to deploy Kyagulanyi in Arua and that is how he emerged a national leader. I put in a lot of personal money including the cash that went into Kassiano Wadri’s last minute preparations and it’s that Arua victory that made Kyagulanyi a national leader. So, I’m not like you people who just came to join NUP out of excitement.”
The boys, coming in as phone callers, demanded to know why Bwanika never became one of the key decision makers if he was indeed a founder as he claims. He responded by asserting that Bobi Wine has credentials of a dictator “who sidelined all of us the founders and owners of NUP just like President Museveni sidelined people he fought with in Luwero against Obote’s forces.”
Bwanika also advised them to use their heads to think as opposed to merely parroting Kyagulanyi’s slogans. “For instance, there is now this empty sloganeering about the protest vote. Many of you are there parroting but you don’t even know what it means.”
Bwanika claimed this was another kiwaani Kyagulanyi was pulling as he prepares to “escort” Gen Museveni to his 2026 victory as the genuine opposition gets annihilated. “How do you talk about protest vote which you can’t even explain. Let him tell the country what does it mean and how does it help to weaken President Museveni.”
He asserted that those things of protest vote would only make sense if Kyagulanyi listened to their advice to push for electoral reforms and prepare party structures as opposed to Rubongoya who sidelined whoever made such suggestions. “How do you turn this into a protest vote to trigger say an uprising against a rigged elections when you don’t believe in building structures? How do you implement anything like that when you aren’t organized on the ground with structures? Why are you not keen about electoral reforms if you are indeed keen on forcing out President Museveni? I dare them to simply boycott the elections if they are indeed serious about the so-called protest vote. Let them protest by staying away.”
Bwanika, who curiously appeared alone in the CBS studios as if his DA party bought the program, sarcastically laughed at the pro-NUP phone callers when they failed to explain what protest vote means and how it works. He put it to them all that sloganeering is deliberately meant to enable Bobi Wine, Rubongoya and Nyanzi to dupe foot soldiers while escorting Gen Museveni to his next coronation ceremony at Kololo come May 2026.
When they failed to effectively counter Bwanika, the phone callers demanded that Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro or Rubongoya becomes a Saturday panel member on CBS so that Bwanika gets effectively countered each time he appears on Kabaka’s radio.
The callers cautioned the moderator Meddie Nsereko that CBS radio risked being shunned by listeners and losing its number one position should he continue bringing Abed Bwanika to propagate his anti-NUP propaganda without the Kyagulanyi camp being represented. They insisted that Bobi’s barking dog Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro gets a permanent slot on the Saturday program.
Bwanika repeatedly made it clear that he just has a few months to leave NUP party whose ineptness he promised to profile and document in a 10-point dossier. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
