In his Kyankwanzi video that went viral online on Thursday evening, Laroo-Pece MP-elect Norbert Mao bashed his worthy opponent for the Speakership race Anita Among, who he accused of many things including being bad mannered and therefore unfit.
This was after Among, as part of her paper presentation to the assembled members, disputed Mao’s credentials to seek the position of Speaker on grounds that he is an outsider who doesn’t qualify to be permitted anywhere near the bedroom (which she said was synonymous with the Speakership job). She suggested that visitors like Mao, whose DP has an MoU with NRM, only have to stop in the compound of the home.
Naturally, Mao, a special guest of the President at the retreat, didn’t take this provocation lightly. He immediately responded by verbally threading his opponent via both his written X message and the recorded video people in his universe widely circulated later on in the evening.
In the video, which allowed him space to at length elaborate his response, Mao depicted Anita Among as being synonymous with “gutter” politics. He also referred to the circumstances under which his name was dropped from the list of speakers meant to present papers at the retreat. He faulted people in the Anita Among universe for fermenting all this mischief.
Mao also claimed that the same actors, serving the same political interests to advantage Anita Among, had caused veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda (who is also chief advisor to Gen MK) to be removed from the list of key note speakers. Mwenda has lately been very outspoken in defence of Mao, while bashing Anita Among.
But Mwenda’s version of events is different. On Friday, he confirmed to Mulengera News that its true his name had originally been included on the list of retreat speakers but was subsequently removed by the organizers at his instigation.
He clarified that he got emergency engagements which required him to travel abroad and this meant he was unable to present the paper the retreat organizers had designated him to, since he wasn’t going to be in the country.
In his view, this is why his name couldn’t feature on the updated list especially after he had signalled the organizers about his inability to attend. This clarification simply means that Norbert Mao, who ought to have cross-checked with him before making public utterances, was deliberately untruthful in his claims, attributing Mwenda’s absence on the hostile attitude of people in the Anita Among universe.
