All is not well at the Anglican Church-owned Ndejje University whose management reliable sources say is these days struggling to pay some of the service providers in a timely manner as they used to. Knowledgeable insiders say that a number of service providers have lately been grumbling after their payments relating to previously supplied goods and services were unduly prolonged. Ndejje has always been run very prudently until recently when bank loans mostly from Centenary bank became too much and created some financial instability at one of Uganda’s most prestigious private University. “Our bosses have been very ambitious relentlessly expanding everywhere to the extent that we now have many campuses including some which were unnecessary. This expansion has been funded mostly using bank loans and yet some of these study centres have not been profitable. As a result, the anticipated financial projections have not been met and the money students pay in tuition ends up being retained by the collecting banks especially Centenary. This has constrained management’s capacity to pay service providers on time and there are fears this situation might escalate,” says an insider working with the accounts department at Ndejje University. Besides the main campus in Luwero, Ndejje has even a more pronounced presence in Kampala Mengo neighborhood where many of the Kampala-based students are trained from.
