The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) has congratulated the newly appointed leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), pledging to work with them to advance Uganda’s agricultural transformation agenda.
In a message shared on Social Media platforms following the appointments, NAGRC&DB congratulated Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Hon. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Dr. Bright Rwamirama, Hon. Desire Muhooza and Hon. Robert Ndugwa Migadde upon their appointment to lead key areas of Uganda’s agriculture, animal industry and fisheries sectors for the 2026–2031 term.
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze has been retained as Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, while Hon. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Dr. Bright Rwamirama has also retained his position as Minister of State for Animal Industry.
Hon. Desire Muhooza has been appointed Minister of State for Agriculture, replacing Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, while Hon. Robert Ndugwa Migadde takes over as Minister of State for Fisheries, replacing Hellen Adoa.
NAGRC&DB said it looks forward to working closely with the new ministry leadership to promote agricultural transformation and improve productivity across the country.
The Centre said collaboration with the ministry will be critical in strengthening food and nutrition security, improving the performance of Uganda’s agricultural and livestock sectors and supporting the livelihoods of farming communities.
The appointments come at a time when Uganda continues to place emphasis on increasing agricultural productivity, commercialization and value addition as part of efforts to improve household incomes and strengthen the country’s food systems.
As a Specialised institution responsible for the conservation, sustainable utilization and improvement of Uganda’s animal genetic resources, NAGRC&DB plays a key role in supporting livestock productivity through breeding programmes, genetic improvement, conservation and research.
The Centre’s message signals its intention to maintain close institutional collaboration with MAAIF as the new leadership begins its 2026–2031 term, particularly in areas aimed at improving livestock production, strengthening genetic resources and contributing to the broader transformation of Uganda’s agricultural sector.
