UCC Highlights Role of National Preparatory Committee in Shaping Uganda’s Radio Communication Positions

Today, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo addressed stakeholders at the ongoing 3rd National Preparatory Committee (NPC) Meeting, commending participants for taking the time to contribute to a process that is critical to Uganda’s engagement in global spectrum and radiocommunication matters.

He thanked the participants for their expertise, commitment and continued contribution, noting that their collective input is vital in shaping Uganda’s national positions on key issues that will be considered at the international level.

The Executive Director explained that preparations for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) are complex and highly collaborative, requiring countries to begin preparing well in advance of the global event. At the national level, this process is coordinated through the National Preparatory Committee, which brings together stakeholders from different sectors to examine emerging spectrum and radiocommunication issues and develop positions that reflect Uganda’s national interests.

He noted that the NPC provides an important platform for stakeholders to share technical knowledge, identify national priorities and build consensus on matters that require Uganda’s participation in international discussions and negotiations.

Through this collaborative approach, Uganda is able to assess the potential impact of global spectrum decisions on the country’s communications sector while ensuring that its interests and priorities are clearly articulated during the international preparatory process.

The NPC also plays a critical role in strengthening coordination among government institutions, industry players, technical experts and other relevant stakeholders. Their participation ensures that Uganda’s positions are informed by diverse perspectives and grounded in the country’s development needs.

As preparations continue, the Executive Director encouraged stakeholders to remain actively engaged in the process, emphasising that effective participation requires collaboration, technical expertise and a shared commitment to advancing Uganda’s interests.

The 3rd NPC Meeting therefore represents another important step in Uganda’s preparations for the World Radiocommunication Conference, reinforcing the country’s commitment to developing well-considered national positions and ensuring effective representation in global discussions on the future of spectrum and radiocommunication.
