Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi joined Authority staff and residents in cleaning activities held as part of the National Cleaning Day on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
The exercise, held following a directive by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja designating the day as National Cleaning Day, brought together URA staff and residents in communities around Walusimbi Close and surrounding areas.
Participants took part in activities including unclogging drainage channels, collecting litter and cleaning roads and other public spaces.
Musinguzi said maintaining clean communities should be embraced as a collective responsibility by all Ugandans.
“It’s our duty and shared responsibility as Ugandans to keep our community clean,” Musinguzi said.
He added that a clean environment is essential to building a healthy population capable of contributing to Uganda’s economic transformation.
“This is to reaffirm our shared commitment to a cleaner and healthier nation. Only a healthy population can contribute positively to our vision of a US$500 billion economy,” he said.
In another cleaning exercise, a team of URA management and staff led by Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs Robert Kalumba cleaned the roads and stretch towards Nakawa Market in Sentamu Kavule LC1 1 Zone.
The activities formed part of URA’s contribution to the nationwide campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness, proper waste management and healthier communities.
Meanwhile, a walk from the Uganda Railways grounds to Nsambya Babies Home attracted a number of participants along the route before ending at the children’s home.
At the home, URA representatives commended the reverend sisters and caregivers for their dedication to caring for vulnerable children.
“We started this morning with steps, we are ending it with impact,” Kizito said.
He also thanked the caregivers for providing a home and care to the children.
“To the reverend sisters and all the caregivers: Thank you for the love you pour into these children. You give them a home when the world turned its back. URA salutes you,” he said.
The National Cleaning Day activities brought together communities, government institutions and other stakeholders across the country, reinforcing the importance of collective action in creating cleaner and healthier communities.
