For many university students, the excitement of starting a new semester is often accompanied by a difficult question: how will I access everything I need to succeed?

Today’s university experience extends beyond lecture halls and textbooks. Students are increasingly required to use digital platforms, access online research materials, attend virtual sessions, and complete assignments that demand reliable technology. However, for many students and families, the cost of tuition, accommodation, and other academic requirements can make owning a laptop and meeting other learning needs a significant challenge.

Recognising these realities, Housing Finance Bank (HFB) has taken its education financing solutions directly to university campuses through its ongoing “Tugende Mu Class” campaign, supporting students, parents, and guardians as the new academic semester begins.

The bank is currently engaging students at three of Uganda’s leading higher learning institutions, Makerere University, Makerere University Business School (MUBS), and Kyambogo University, providing access to tailored Education Loans designed to ease financial pressure and give students the resources they need to focus on their academic journey.

Through the campaign, eligible applicants can access up to UGX 5 million in school fees financing, alongside an additional UGX 3 million laptop support facility to help students acquire essential technology for research, coursework, and digital learning.

Speaking during the campus activations, John Veve, Head of Sales Coordination at Housing Finance Bank, noted that the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to making education financing more accessible for students and families.

“Education remains one of the most important investments a family can make, but financial constraints should not limit a student’s ability to pursue their ambitions. Our goal through the Tugende Mu Class campaign is to simplify access to education financing by meeting students and parents where they are and providing solutions that address real needs beyond tuition,” he said.

The campus activations come at a critical time as thousands of students, including freshers and continuing students, return to university and navigate the financial demands that come with a new semester.

Beyond loan processing, HFB’s interactive campus presence is providing students with convenient access to banking services, including on the spot account opening, financial literacy sessions, guidance on managing finances while at university, and opportunities to engage directly with the bank’s team.

Badru Kabogoza, the main organiser of the Kyambogo University Bazaar, commended Housing Finance Bank for addressing practical challenges that affect students’ academic experience.

“Navigating university life can be overwhelming, especially for freshers who are adjusting to new academic demands. Having Housing Finance Bank directly on campus gives students and parents access to practical solutions, from education financing to account opening, making the transition easier and more convenient,” he said.

Students, parents, and guardians visiting Makerere University, Makerere University Business School, and Kyambogo University can interact with Housing Finance Bank teams during the semester-opening activities to learn more about the Education Loan solutions and access banking services from HFB branches in  Ntinda, Kololo and Namuwongo or visit the website here https://www.housingfinance.co.ug/about-us/branch-locations-and-opening-hours/.

Through the Tugende Mu Class campaign, Housing Finance Bank is bringing education financing closer to students and families, helping them access the financial support and learning tools needed to make a successful transition into the new academic semester.
