Some of Uganda’s most influential economic policymakers and banking leaders are set to converge for the Equity Diaspora Xchange, a high-level virtual webinar designed to empower Ugandans living abroad with practical strategies for turning remittances into sustainable investment capital.

Organized by Equity Bank Uganda, the webinar will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. under the theme, “From Remittance to Investment Capital: Diaspora Wealth for Uganda’s Economic Transformation.”

The event will be headlined by Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, one of Africa’s leading economists and a renowned expert in economic transformation, wealth creation and financial inclusion. With decades of experience advising governments, international development agencies and financial institutions, Prof. Nuwagaba is expected to provide valuable insights into how Uganda’s diaspora can become a powerful driver of national economic growth through strategic investment.

Joining him on the panel is Gift Shoko, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Equity Bank Uganda, who brings more than 26 years of banking experience across Southern and East Africa. Shoko will share Equity Bank’s vision for empowering diaspora customers through innovative banking solutions, cross-border financial services and investment opportunities that connect Ugandans abroad to opportunities back home.

The discussion will also feature Joseph Enyimu, Commissioner for Economic Development Policy and Research at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. A respected development economist, Enyimu will offer perspectives on Uganda’s economic policies and the critical role diaspora investments can play in accelerating sustainable development and private sector growth.

Adding a practical banking perspective will be Winfred Wanjiru, Senior Manager for International Banking and Cross-Border Payments at Equity Bank Uganda. She will highlight financial products and payment solutions that make it easier for Ugandans living overseas to save, invest and support businesses and families in Uganda.

The webinar will be moderated by Robert Wanok, Head of Retail Banking at Equity Bank Uganda, who will guide discussions on unlocking the full economic potential of diaspora remittances.

The Equity Diaspora Xchange comes at a time when remittances remain one of Uganda’s most significant sources of foreign exchange. While billions of shillings are sent home annually, experts believe there is enormous untapped potential to channel a greater share of these funds into productive investments capable of creating jobs, supporting entrepreneurship and driving long-term economic transformation.

Equity Bank Uganda says the webinar is part of its broader commitment to empowering the Ugandan diaspora with financial knowledge, innovative banking solutions and investment opportunities that contribute to both personal wealth creation and national development.

The one-hour online conference is expected to attract Ugandans living across the globe, entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and development partners seeking practical insights into building wealth while contributing to Uganda’s economic transformation.
