The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and Roofings Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Uganda’s industrial transformation through stronger collaboration anchored on the use of credible, timely and reliable official statistics.
The commitment was underscored during a high-level engagement at Roofings’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Namanve, where officials from both institutions discussed the critical role of data in driving investment, industrial planning and sustainable economic growth.
The UBOS delegation was led by the Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Vincent F. Ssenono, who represented the Executive Director and Chief Statistician, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza. They were received by Roofings’ Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Dr. Martin F. Kyeyune, together with the company’s senior management.
During the engagement, UBOS emphasized that official statistics remain a vital resource for evidence-based decision-making, enabling businesses, government and development partners to make informed investment and policy decisions. The Bureau reaffirmed its commitment to producing high-quality official statistics that support Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and strengthen the National Statistical System.
The discussions focused on how reliable statistics can guide industrial planning, identify investment opportunities, expand export markets and enhance the competitiveness of Uganda’s manufacturing sector. Both institutions agreed that data has become an indispensable tool for businesses seeking sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive global economy.
Roofings Limited welcomed the partnership, noting that access to credible official statistics will strengthen its investment planning, production forecasting and market expansion strategies. Company officials observed that evidence-based decision-making is essential for maintaining competitiveness and supporting long-term business growth.
During the meeting, Roofings shared its remarkable investment journey, revealing that the company has grown from an initial investment of US$2 million in 1994 to an industrial enterprise valued at more than US$500 million. The company attributed its growth to sustained investment in modern technology, value addition, increased production capacity and export-oriented manufacturing.
Speaking during the engagement, Roofings Group Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Arif described the collaboration with UBOS as an important milestone in promoting data-driven decision-making across Uganda’s industrial sector. He noted that reliable statistics provide businesses with the confidence to invest, innovate and compete effectively.
For UBOS, the engagement reflects its continued efforts to deepen partnerships with the private sector and ensure that official statistics remain at the heart of Uganda’s development agenda. By working closely with industry leaders, the Bureau is helping to foster a culture of evidence-based planning that supports industrialization, investment and sustainable economic growth.
As Uganda accelerates its industrialization agenda, the collaboration between UBOS and Roofings demonstrates the growing recognition that quality official statistics are essential for shaping smarter business decisions, attracting investment and driving the country’s economic transformation.
