Government Warns Public Against Fraudsters Selling RDC Jobs

By Ben Musanje

The Office of the Minister for the Presidency has warned the public against fraudsters who are extorting money from unsuspecting Ugandans by falsely claiming they can secure appointments as Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), their deputies, and assistants.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said it had received reports of conmen posing as influential individuals and soliciting money from members of the public with promises of securing the coveted government positions.

The Ministry clarified that all appointments of RDCs, RCCs, their deputies, and assistants are made exclusively by the President in accordance with Article 203 of the Constitution. It emphasized that no agents, brokers, or middlemen are involved in the appointment process.

The Office further stressed that government does not charge any fees or require any form of facilitation payment for appointments to public service positions, warning that anyone demanding money in exchange for an RDC or RCC appointment is engaging in criminal fraud.

The Ministry also dismissed claims that there is an ongoing recruitment exercise or reshuffle being conducted outside official communication from the Office of the President, describing such claims as false, malicious, and intended to deceive members of the public.

According to the statement, the fraudulent schemes are aimed at defrauding citizens, creating unnecessary confusion, and undermining the integrity of public service appointments.

The Office of the Minister for the Presidency has urged Ugandans not to give money to any individual or group claiming to have influence over RDC appointments. Instead, members of the public have been advised to report suspected fraudsters to the nearest police station or directly to the Office of the Minister for the Presidency through its toll-free line, 0800-320-320.

The Ministry reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring transparency, merit, and integrity in all public appointments. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
