The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has intensified its public awareness campaign, reminding taxpayers to take advantage of the ongoing tax waiver program before the June 30, 2026 deadline.
Through a series of social media messages and public notices, URA is urging businesses and individual taxpayers to clear their outstanding principal tax liabilities and benefit from a 100 percent waiver on accumulated penalties and interest.
In one of its latest reminders shared online, URA stressed that there will be “No second chances in July. No extra time in August. Just one date that matters.” The authority warned taxpayers against waiting until the final days, emphasizing that the waiver window closes permanently on June 30.
The tax amnesty program applies to domestic taxes accumulated on or before June 30, 2024. Taxpayers who clear their principal tax obligations by the deadline will automatically qualify for the waiver without making a formal application.
URA says the initiative is intended to support business recovery and growth by reducing the burden of mounting tax penalties.
“Your business deserves growth, not the burden of accumulating penalties,” one of the campaign messages reads. “You have worked hard to build your business. Don’t let unpaid tax penalties tear it down.”
The waiver covers domestic taxes administered under the Tax Procedures Code Act, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Corporation Income Tax, Rental Income Tax, and Withholding Tax. However, customs taxes and duties are excluded from the amnesty.
To benefit from the waiver, taxpayers are required to log into their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) accounts on the URA web portal, review their tax statements, generate a Payment Registration Number (PRN), and pay the principal tax amount through authorized banking or mobile money channels.
URA further clarified that the waiver system is automated and can also apply proportionally where partial payments are made.
