The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced the successful completion of emergency repair works on a key water transmission pipeline serving Karuma Town and surrounding areas, restoring normal water supply after a temporary disruption.

According to a statement shared on NWSC’s social media platforms, the repairs were carried out on the transmission main from the Nile Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to Karuma Town’s steel elevated reservoir located at Ayuda Village, Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) tanks, and neighboring communities.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding during the downtime,” NWSC said in the statement, confirming that water services had resumed following the completion of the emergency intervention.

The restoration comes at a time when activities at the Karuma Hydropower Project remain under close monitoring by government agencies and sector stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the Karuma and Isimba Hydropower Projects on Friday conducted an oversight visit to the 600-megawatt Karuma Hydropower Plant as part of its routine supervision activities.

According to updates shared on UEGCL’s X platform, the committee assessed the plant’s performance during the Defects Liability Period and reviewed rectification works undertaken by the contractor.

The PSC also received detailed briefings from the UEGCL technical team regarding the operational status and overall performance of the hydropower facility, one of Uganda’s largest energy infrastructure projects.

The visit included inspections of critical sections of the plant, including the water intake area, the control room, and the weed dumping site, where officials evaluated ongoing operational and maintenance procedures.

Senior representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), the Solicitor General’s Office, the Owner’s Engineer, Sinohydro, and UEGCL attended the meeting and site tour.

UEGCL’s senior management team, led by the Chief Projects Officer, hosted the delegation and provided updates on progress being made to address technical concerns identified during the project’s post-construction phase.

The Karuma Hydropower Plant is expected to play a critical role in strengthening Uganda’s electricity generation capacity and supporting industrial growth across the country.
