Former Luuka County MP Meddie Mulumba has distinguished himself as a fearless and radical defender of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on social media platforms, including a WhatsApp group comprising of ex-legislators.
Mulumba’s latest victim is none other than former Museveni Minister Daniel Omara Atubo from Otuke County in Lango. In his characteristically provocative rant, Mulumba reminded Atubo that his time to dominate political discourses and shine on the national level ended decades ago and now is time for Gen MK, the CDF.
Atubo had disputed the capacity in which the President’s son, who he claimed doesn’t seem to understand his role as CDF, was influencing who becomes Speaker for the 12th Parliament.
Saying that no army commander in the history of post-Independence Uganda has ever purported to appoint a Speaker of Parliament, Atubo called on all fearless Ugandans of good will and with courage, honesty and functional brains to confront the situation by calling out Gen MK.
He demanded that MK gets “stopped from misbehaving” and taught what “he should rightly do.”
Responding immediately, Meddie Mulumba said that Gen MK was a CDF deriving from unique circumstances because Uganda has never had a CDF who is also son of the sitting President and also charged with being SPA in charge of special duties.
“So, why pretend that Muhoozi should behave like his predecessors when his position has no precedent?” asked Meddie Mulumba who also famously served as a Commissioner at Uganda Human Rights Commission after his term as MP had ended.
Mulumba schooled Omara Atubo, who remains very outspoken on many WhatsApp groups, that Gen MK does some of the things as CDF, first son and others as SPA to the President in charge of special duties. He added that this is something the framers of the law cannot have envisaged.
He also observed that no Ugandan Sitting President ever had a first son who was 50 years old. “That alone rewrites history,” Mulumba asserted.
He concluded with: “The real confusion isn’t Gen. Muhoozi not knowing his constitutional function—it’s you refusing to admit that Uganda has never been in this predicament before. Courage, honesty and brains aren’t about shouting misbehavior. They’re about recognizing that when unprecedented power meets unprecedented family proximity, the old rulebook burns. Teach him? Maybe first teach the Constitution to catch up with reality.
