The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) have attributed the prolonged water shortage affecting several parts of Kampala to ongoing emergency repair works along Mbogo Road near the Kiwatule Flyover in Najjera.
In a statement shared on its official X account, NWSC said the interruption in water supply had affected customers in Kiwatule, Najjera, Busibante, Bulabira, Buwaate and surrounding areas.
The utility body explained that technical teams were carrying out emergency works on the water network and assured customers that all efforts were being made to restore supply within the shortest time possible.
“We regret to inform our customers in Kiwatule, Najjera, Busibante, Bulabira, Buwaate and surrounding areas that the current supply interruption is due to ongoing emergency works along Mbogo Road from Kiwatule Flyover in Najjera,” the statement read.
NWSC further apologized for the inconvenience caused by the prolonged disruption, which has triggered frustration among residents who say they have spent days without water.
Several affected residents used social media to demand clearer communication and timelines from the corporation regarding the restoration of normal water supply.
One resident, Angela Leticia, said it appeared as though residents of Najjera 1 had been forgotten despite enduring nearly eight days without water. She noted that families were struggling to carry out basic domestic activities such as cooking, bathing and cleaning.
In response to her concerns, NWSC maintained that her area was already on supply and requested her customer number and contact details to allow officials to follow up on the matter.
Another resident, Leah Anthia Nanfuna, reported that residents along Mbogo 1 Road in Najjera had not had water since Friday, May 8. NWSC again requested her details through direct message for further assistance.
Meanwhile, another customer, Kenan Mwiine, urged the corporation to provide clear timelines whenever supply interruptions occur so residents can prepare and store enough water.
NWSC later announced that the emergency works had been completed and pumping had resumed, adding that water supply would gradually normalize overnight as the system regained full pressure.
