Veteran Journalist Kateregga Musaazi On Why Gen Mk Is an Idea Whose Time Has Come

By Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is a son of the revolution. He was born in the struggle, he grew up in it, suffering from it, and is now contributing to national stability and development.

He belongs to the category of young leaders of the revolution that are groomed to inherit the fundamental change.

I remember his magazine The Frontline he produced with Karoli Semogerere in the early nineties, and his interview with the father of the revolution and how novice he was then, politically.

Karoli Semogerere, now a High Court judge, is a son to the Dr. Paul Kawanga Semogerere.

They had a good interview with the late Andrew Adimola, a former DP President General and chair of the screening committee under Okello Junta and Paulo Muwanga that vetted those to be appointed ministers.

Adimola admitted that NRM/NRA was far supersonic than the military junta. He singled out one delegate on the NRM team in Nairobi Peace talks, Abu Mayanja, a veteran independence nationalist, and according to him, the Okellos had no equal to him.

Then mobilization of university students to join UPDF. They form the core command in our forces.

Security forces and agencies are no longer for dropouts but professionals. Yet it started in FRONASA under the father of the revolution, UNLF and NRM/NRA, but his campaign intensified it.

While MK was at Masaka Recreation Ground, l compared the time to early 2000, when the Movement secretariat was almost dead and Kizza Besigye had teamed up with Paul Semogerere. What helped us was Kalangala Action Plan under Maj. Kakooza Mutale however much he and KAP were demonized.

I advised that let MK get integrated in NRM they stand for positions in NRM structure and in the general elections.

By the time the General and his wife came to Masaka Recreation Grounds to declare war on corruption, things had started to become well rooted.

This was reported at Kyabadaaza in Butambala for Greater Mpigi where we were with Comrade Witonze.

In terms of regional integration, even MK detractors appreciate the role he played to ensure that Rwanda opened the border.

Closeness with his uncles; Paul Kagame, Uhuru Kenyatta have born fruits.

We cannot forget DR Congo, Central African Republic, Somalia, name it.

I think that is the reason he was awarded the Africa continental medal.

Then, internationally, he is seen either with a defense Minister, an armed forces chief or a military or defense attaché of this country or that country. Be in the Middle East, where he is close to President Al Sisi, and is talked about in one of the strategic countries in Nile valley basin, Israel, Arabian Peninsula sheikhdoms, Iran, then Eurasia, Oceania and Easternia, especially Russia, China, Japan.

As Ssaabalwaanyi hinted the other time, MK will not tolerate the corrupt in his government.

Let us use the transition now, when it goes to up to 2031 or whether 2036, when ini sha’a Allah, NRM will mark a golden jubilee in power to weed out the corrupt that have become a burden in the revolution, and we identify Cadres with a clean record, young and old and consolidate more for Uganda, East Africa and Africa.

If children of past leaders like Maurice Kagimu Kiwanuka, Jimmy Akena, Taban Amin, Wasswa Katumba Lule, Okello Oryem, without discrimination, have all flourished under the NRM fundamental change, why not the son of the revolution Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba?

Let us sing with Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah: Forward every, backward never. Aluta Continua. Happy birthday, Omuko of Ssembabule and Greater Masaka. Happy 52nd birthday. Allah is Great. The author, Omulangira Haji Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi, is the National Coordinator NRM Journalists Network and RDC Jinja District.
