The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has injected UGX 20 million into the high-profile 52nd birthday charity run for Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, set to take place on 26 April 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds, as momentum behind the event continues to surge.
UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo said the contribution was made under the commission’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, framed around supporting vulnerable children in orphanages and disadvantaged urban communities. He further extended birthday wishes to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on behalf of the institution.
Thembo emphasized that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) remains a cornerstone of national stability and socio-economic transformation, attributing its leadership under Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as a driving force behind initiatives that continue to attract institutional and political backing.
The charity run, themed “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” has evolved into a major national mobilization exercise, aimed at raising funds for orphans and vulnerable groups through UGX 20,000 running kits and mobile money contributions.
The event has already drawn heavyweight financial support from top political figures. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among reportedly contributed UGX 100 million through the purchase of 5,000 running kits and urged nationwide participation, describing the initiative as a blend of patriotism and social responsibility.
Additional backing has also come from former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, NRM Vice Chairperson for Buganda Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, and Presidential Office figure Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, all of whom have committed significant sums through kit purchases.
As excitement builds, organizers have warned against fraudsters attempting to exploit the campaign, directing all contributions to official MTN MoMo (55445766) and Airtel (4405201) channels.
The run is expected to attract a massive turnout at Kololo, combining fitness, political goodwill, and philanthropy in a celebration that has rapidly grown into one of the most talked-about national events of the season.
