Equity Bank Uganda is expanding its digital banking services to support business owners who are increasingly managing fast-moving and unpredictable daily operations.
Through its platform, Equity Online for Business, the bank is encouraging customers to carry out banking transactions remotely, reducing the need for physical visits to branches and long queues.
The initiative is aimed at helping entrepreneurs handle routine financial tasks such as checking account balances, confirming payments, transferring funds, and managing multiple accounts from a single digital interface. According to the bank, the service is designed to allow customers to complete transactions at their convenience, whether at work, home, or on the move.
The push comes at a time when mobile phone usage and digital financial services continue to grow across Uganda. Many business owners now rely on smartphones as their primary tool for communication and transactions, a shift that has influenced how financial services are delivered.
Equity Bank notes that the platform is particularly useful for small and medium-sized enterprises that need real-time visibility of cash flow to manage income and expenditure effectively. It also supports businesses involved in cross-border trade by facilitating faster transfers and providing access to up-to-date foreign exchange rates.
By reducing the need for physical branch visits, the bank says customers can save time and operational costs, which can be significant for businesses with tight schedules and limited resources.
While digital adoption continues to grow, the bank acknowledges that gaps in internet access still exist. However, it points to increasing connectivity and shifting customer habits as key drivers of the move toward online and mobile banking.
Equity Bank Uganda says the overall goal is to simplify everyday banking tasks and align financial services with how customers already live and work, allowing business owners to focus more on operations and less on administrative banking processes.
