In a recent meeting at Entebbe State House, President Museveni told some senior NRM leaders that he was pleasantry surprised over the ease with which his soft-spoken Minister Jane Ruth Aceng kept her word by delivering on her controversial promise to politically ‘discipline’ her very belligerent rival Betty Amongi.
Even more enchanting, according to Gen Museveni, were the recurrent intelligence reports that repeatedly came to him indicating Aceng’s unequivocal readiness to administer similar political disciplinary proceedings once again in 2031, should Betty Amongi opt to once again misbehave by daring to stand for Lira City Woman MP slot.
Aceng will, out of necessity, be holding onto the same Woman MP seat just to once again frustrate Betty Amongi in 2031, should the UPC First Lady continue refusing to repent and learn from her past provocative political conduct. Preliminary reports show that Betty Amongi has opted to begin early preparations for 2031 (since money has never been her problem) instead of wasting time filing an election petition.
During the above referenced interaction, Gen Museveni said that he believed Aceng was done and never expected her to survive the 2026 elections given the way the UPCs ganged up on her while closely working with their envious and intrigue-motivated collaborators inside her own NRM party.
Museveni said he didn’t believe that his NRM party stood much chance given that Lira City is the capital for Lango sub region which the UPCs consider to be their cradle. “I’m pleased that my daughter Dr. Aceng fought like a man and delivered for us victory on that seat and also conquered several other territories in that City because many other NRM flag bearers won their respective races, defeating entrenched UPCs,” an enthused Museveni was quoted to have said.
“Until this happened, I had always underestimated her credentials as a fighter because on the surface she seems to be very soft, kind and therefore unable to put out a killer punch.” The big man added that: “I wish I had known this much earlier and deployed her against the opposition more than 10 years ago, the story of NRM in Lango would have been much different by now.”
Indeed, apart from safely defeating her very fierce opponent Betty Among (who she beat with 38,505 votes against 26,503), Dr. Aceng also managed to have her favored candidates floor their opponents in most of the local council races both in Lira City and the district (Lira rural). Even a significant number of the (renegade) UPCs won their City and Division Councilor races because they collaborated with the Aceng political universe that is well entrenched across Lango sub region.
Many of the elected leaders (including at incumbent MP level) who had been hostile to Dr. Aceng also lived to regret, throughout Lango, as voters gave them their food through the ballot box.
All these dynamics combine to demonstrate the fact that Dr. Aceng is a political giant on the rise having effectively distinguished herself as the leading and unrivalled NRM kingmaker for Lango sub region.
This explains why even Gen MK, the President’s son, has taken note of her exceptionally good mobilization skills and has lately been giving her consequential assignments, having secured the President’s permission to officially craft and co-opt her into his PLU universe.
Gen MK, who is widely acknowledged as Uganda’s next President, is clearly determined to tap into the organic popularity and legitimacy Jane Ruth Aceng enjoys not only in her native Lango sub region but also in the whole country.
Indeed, at the forthcoming reorganization of the big man’s 9th term Cabinet, Dr. Aceng is expected to eat big since Gen Museveni’s desire to reward and elevate effective fighters who triumph in their political battles is legendary and well known.
