In a heartwarming finale to his tenure, outgoing Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago brought the curtains down on an emotional note at Kitante Primary School’s DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) day. The event, which was electric with fanfare, intensive learning, and memorable experiences, will be etched in the memories of pupils, staff, and the entire school community.
Lukwago, visibly moved, was overwhelmed by the token of appreciation presented to him by the school community. The gesture, a recognition of his tireless efforts to protect the school’s 19-acre land against cartels, brought a lump to his throat. “I will forever treasure the love and strong bond shared with Kitante and many other KCCA Schools,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.
The Lord Mayor’s fight to safeguard the school’s land, which included thwarting attempts by cartels to grab 5 acres, had earned him the admiration and respect of the community. His presence at the DEAR day celebration was a poignant reminder of his dedication to the education sector and his commitment to the people of Kampala.
As he bows out of office, Lukwago leaves behind a legacy of passion, integrity, and service. The Kitante Primary School community, and indeed the entire city, will miss his leadership and vision.
