The race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament is heating up, but one contender is facing an uphill battle. Hon. Norbert Mao, despite his strong ambition, is being written off by many Members of Parliament due to his party’s limited presence.
With only six MPs in the 12th Parliament, Mao’s national footing is shaky, and analysts say it’s a tough road ahead against candidates backed by the dominant party with over 400 MPs.
“The numbers are against him,” said one MP. “It’s going to be a tough contest, but we have to respect his ambition.”
The ruling party’s dominance is undeniable, and their candidate, Annette Anita Among, is likely to have a strong edge. As the Speaker election shapes up, it’s looking like a predictable outcome.
“Hon. Mao is a good leader, but the numbers are not on his side,” said another MP. “We hope he puts up a good fight, but it’s likely to be a landslide win for the ruling party’s candidate.” (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
