Kabale District was filled with excitement and pride as Dr. Aisha Ruth Kasolo Biyinzika, a strong voice for women empowerment, received the highly respected Nalubaale National Medal from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The award was presented on Friday 6th, February 2026 during the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations, a national event marking the launch of the National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war in 1981. The ceremony attracted top government leaders, including cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, senior UPDF officers, and local leaders. All eyes were on Dr. Kasolo as her name was called, sparking loud applause.
Dr. Aisha Ruth Kasolo was honored for her tireless work in empowering women and boosting economic development in Uganda. For more than 20 years, she has worked to ensure women move from dependence to becoming strong income earners and decision-makers in their homes and communities.
She currently serves as the Project Coordinator for the GROW Project (Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises), a World Bank-funded initiative. The project provides low-interest, collateral-free loans to women entrepreneurs across the country. Through this program, thousands of women have been given a chance to start businesses, grow existing ones, and support their families.
Dr. Kasolo holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and has worked with major international partners such as the European Union, African Development Bank, USAID, and DFID. Her work focuses on private sector development, trade, human capital growth, and gender equality.
After receiving the medal, Dr. Kasolo said that she would continue championing causes aimed at ensuring every woman in Uganda has a reliable source of income and is able to access basic necessities for a decent life.
The Nalubaale Medal, named after Lake Victoria, is one of Uganda’s most prestigious civilian honors. It is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation’s political and social development.
