Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has demonstrated how he is such a fearless Minister who despises mediocrity and indeed one time confronted President Museveni, the appointing authority, registering his discomfort about being part of a Cabinet the President is proud to tell citizens was full of fishermen and women (the abavubi).
Appearing on the Saturday Capital Gang, Baryomunsi told the millions of people who were listening that he one time confronted the President during a private engagement and demanded to know “why he was calling us Ministers, fishermen.”
He elaborated: “He clarified to me that yes he deliberately preferred to have a Cabinet full of fishermen and women but I wasn’t one of them. He told me that no for you Chris Baryomunsi you aren’t a fisherman. He told me that you are like Luke who was a professional person even when he was part of Jesus’s group which had many fishermen.”
Baryomunsi said this clarification by the President gave him comfort and he went on to make it clear to the veteran leader from Rwakitura that he wasn’t prepared to put up with the mediocrity which the characterization fishermen depicted or portrayed.
Baryomunsi said on Capital Gang that he had deliberately resisted mediocrity in Cabinet and set out to demand high standards according to which all Ministers ought to be judged and measured.
He added that even in CEC, he insisted on high standards, only to realize much later on that this caused him to be disliked by some of the powerful people at Kyadondo and elsewhere inside NRM who dislike him up to this day.
He believes that its those people who connived to herd him out of CEC and he is now prepared to do without being a Minister because its simply not possible for everyone to be a Minister or Member of Parliament at all times.
He says that he is ready to pay the price for his personal views including being misunderstood and made to lose his two positions both as MP and member of Cabinet.
Chris Baryomunsi, who was a special guest on the Capital Gang, fearlessly spoke like someone already having premunition that his days in Cabinet weren’t going to be many anymore, as the country counts down to the month of May when the newly re-elected Gen Museveni will be unveiling his new government and people he will be working with.
