Frank Asiimwe Mulekwa, a long-term NRM radio media activist/mobilizer in Kampala, has thanked the people of Rubaga North for voting him to be one of the KCCA Councillors representing the community at Rubaga Division council for the next 5 years.
In 2021, he had been defeated by a NUP Candidate because the Kavule-based party’s Kyagulanyi wave was at its strongest.
Now having unexpectedly won, Asiimwe a Mukiga who has practiced politics in Kampala for much of his adult life, says he is emboldened by the numerical strength Gen Museveni’s party has newly acquired in Rubaga Division Council and will be vying for the position of Speakership, which he is certain to get.
Asiimwe says that all the odds were against him because his parish or ward remains NUP-dominated but people voted for him because of his well-articulated agenda, which resonated with their daily struggles. He denies being a beneficiary of a rigged process.
He says he won’t be letting voters down because he intends to leverage Gen Museveni’s wealth creation programs and access women and youths to life-changing opportunities inside the NRM government.
“I thank Kabaka’s CBS radio managers who used their Gakyali mabaga program to train me into an excellent public speaker and I’m now set to serve my people with distinction because I intend to use this platform of being Rubaga Councillor and Speaker to vie for even higher positions in the area, in the near future,” Asiimwe declared on Saturday.
Sources close to him say that come 2031, Frank Asiimwe Mulekwa will be having his eyes either on the position of Rubaga Mayor or Rubaga North MP which currently are being held by Zachary Mberaze Mawiya and Abubaker Kawalya respectively. These are both NUP.
Asiimwe says that the unexpected wins in especially Kampala Division Councils have emboldened the NRM strategists to become even more deliberate because they clearly see the possibility of winning every elective position in Kampala in the next five years from now. He says that the people of Kampala now want work, which is synonymous with NRM, and are tired of endless words and rhetoric by the opposition.
