In his Sunday speech at Rwakitura where religious leaders prayed and thanked God for his re-election, president Museveni was generally in a happy mood and mentioned a few people by name and recognized them for their role in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
These included Hassan Basajjabalaba who he described as a perfect example of a rich man in Uganda. Secretary general Richard Todwong had praised Basajjabalaba for being one of those who worked hard to deliver votes for Museveni and other NRM flag bearers in greater Bushenyi.
Museveni said that he was looking forward to use his next term as president to deliberately support local and foreign investors involved in farming, the setting up of factories and hotels to create jobs for the country’s youths.
He gave the example of Basajjabalaba who was in the audience and made it clear that at the end of his 2031 term, Uganda should be full of tycoons who are in the league of Basajjabalaba.
He also referred to Moses Kigongo his NRM vice chairman who he praised for being another rich Ugandan with a big presence in the hospitality industry where he owns big hotels in Kampala and Wakiso. He said the Kigongo and Basajjabalaba level tycoons will continue to be supported to access cheap and patient credit through UDB which is a government-owned bank.
Museveni also spoke about Anita Among saying he was proud to have in her a speaker “who moves around instead of one who just sits in the office.”
That by moving around the country to energize his campaign trail, Among was able to see the country’s bad roads in Buhweju and Alebtong districts which need urgent intervention.
As speaker, she will be expected to use her office to prioritize the funding of such roads in parliament once area MPs bring up the matter.
Museveni at the start of his speech also referred to his wife Janet saying she is a very important person in his life because she prays for him and prepares his meals to ensure sufficient stability at their home.
Janet had just thanked Museveni for creating a slot for her to speak at the Rwakitura prayer event, something she said she never expected. Before speaking, Museveni asked Janet to come and greet their guests.
Museveni also mentioned the name of his opponent Robert Kyagulanyi and his deputy Muwanga Kivumbi, castigating them for being traitors.
He claimed the two had used foreign money to recruit hundreds of youths, trained and armed them with pangas and hammers to attack and kill NRM supporters to avenge the defeat of NRM candidates in the different constituencies especially in Buganda.
He called Muwanga a terrorist and commended security forces agents who reacted bravely in Butambala in the election night where they gunned down seven of his gang members who were violently protesting his defeat by PSST Ramathan Goobi’s brother Eriasa Mukiibi Sserunjogi, who sources say will be rewarded with a ministerial post for defeating such a monstrous politician that Muwanga Kivumbi had become.
The president also talked about a one Asiimwe who he said rang him and told him about the misleading speech Kyagulanyi had given at his Hoima rally where he promised to give 20% of the oil money to local governments in Bunyoro.
He also spoke about UNLA commander Bazilio Okello who he said in one day used a panga to cut to death 10 NRA rebel collaborators like Lutamaguzi because they refused to reveal the whereabouts of the NRA rebel leaders.
He said in the end, Bazilio Okello died in his movie as the Movement only kept growing stronger. Museveni predicted that even Muwanga and Kyagulanyi will end up in the same way-defeated, if they don’t stop their sabotage against his government.
He also mentioned names of religious leaders present at Rwakitura and begged them to help him sensitize and speak to parents of the young people, the Ugandan youths who continue to be misled into disruptive political activities by Kyagulanyi and Muwanga who he said are part of the “old Besigye group.”
Museveni said he was ready to forgive such young people and have them rehabilitated but begged the religious leaders to help him detoxicate and sensitize them at the family level since they live nearer to community members than him.
