President Museveni last week visited Mozambique ostensibly to refresh his memory with the initial military training he and his comrades first had in the 1960/70s. He was accompanied by his brother Gen Saleh and Gen Ivan Koreta. While there, Museveni took off time to interact with youngsters to whom he even donated money for educational development. Years earlier he had been to Rwanda and equally donated to youngsters’ educational causes, causing uproar back home. We have realized that such visits, innocent as they seem, are part of the President’s broader vision to build a network of young Pan-Africanists whom he believes will be able to perpetrate his views and also stand up to Western imperialism and chauvinism so that the NATO invasion, similar to what Libya faced in 2011, doesn’t happen again. He calls it aggression and he believes to defeat it, a lot must be done to adjust the mindset of the young African elites and work must start early. “He knows he won’t be president forever but wants to leave behind a Movement of young Pan-Africanists that will always be able to make reference to the views he lived for regarding Pan-African political, ideological and economic empowerment,” said a source close to the President. “It’s a serious program because he has even put in place a high level committee comprising mostly of brilliant young people and they are the ones putting final touches on the conceptualization documents under the supervision of some pro-Museveni elders now in their retirement. The same team of highly qualified and travelled young people were also behind the very moving speech the President delivered recently to the leaders of Southern Sudan,” disclosed the source adding that it was the President’s wish to have his address to the Sudanese, that was big on Pan-Africanism, widely publicized but its only UBC that broadcast it live. “But unfortunately not many people watch UBC but that speech epitomized the direction the president wants this Africa-wide movement of young thinkers to take.” It was further revealed that efforts by Museveni to directly market the idea of this Africa-wide intellectual movement of young people to his fellow Presidents haven’t been successful because they “don’t seem to get it and those who do think he wants to use it to dominate them and increase his relevance on the world stage.” Nevertheless, the big man is determined to soldier on by directly reaching out to the young people in numerous African countries and infuse them with his ideals. He wants them networked and always build consensus on major world events, added a source. It’s further revealed that Museveni believes the differences between big African powers (for instance between Morocco and South Africa or even Morocco and Algeria) are an opportunity for him to revitalize himself as a neutral leader on the continent. We are impeccably informed that the big man is planning to invite the Morocco king to Uganda later this year and he will subsequently reciprocate by travelling to Rabat. All this is meant to consolidate his influence in both Arab and black Africa. We subsequently shall unveil some of the key figures comprising the President’s high level committee tasked with conceptualizing this Africa-wide project. It’s understood that Museveni is determined to put in solid cash (Gaddafi style) to ensure his grand African project succeeds and must seem to be deriving from the young people and not from his as a person. It’s said that having learnt from the Gaddafi mistakes with his USA and the rushed political federation, Museveni is acting cautiously to ensure that his Africa-wide movement does make him misunderstood by fellow African presidents.
