By Mulengera Reporters

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) this week participated in the 2-day in-House Counsel Convention of the East African Law Society, held in Kigali, Rwanda. The event brought together leading legal professionals, corporate executives and governance experts from across the region to discuss the latest trends and challenges in the field of law.

The convention provided a platform for in-house counsel to interact, sharpen their foresight, stretch their creativity while equipping themselves with the skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing business landscape.

NWSC’s participation in the convention was marked by a panel discussion on “Small but Mighty: Compact Legal Teams, Big Impact.” Having been chosen to be part of this panel discussion, Ms Brownie Ebal, who is the Principal Legal Officer at NWSC, shared about good experiences deriving from the Corporation’s approach to performance, wellness and team motivation.

Counsel Ebal explained to her audience that NWSC’s approach to wellness and motivation is centered around creating a positive and supportive work environment. The Corporation has implemented several initiatives aimed at promoting staff wellbeing, including the NWSC Fiesta, a bi-monthly event that engages staff in outdoor sports and exercise, and Wellness Thursdays, a weekly online session with industry experts on mental health and wellbeing. These initiatives have contributed to a more motivated and productive team, enabling NWSC to deliver exceptional service to its customers.

The convention reaffirmed that the role of in-house counsel is rapidly evolving. Today’s legal leaders must command influence in the boardroom, master technology and finance, build resilient teams through wellness and motivation and innovate beyond compliance to deliver business value. NWSC’s participation in the convention demonstrated its commitment to excellence, resilience and wellbeing not only within the Corporation but also across the continent.

NWSC’s participation in the In-House Counsel Convention of the East African Law Society also demonstrates the Corporation’s commitment to legal leadership and wellness. By sharing its approach to performance, wellness and team motivation, NWSC is committed to its standards of in-house counsel. As the Corporation continues to drive excellence and innovation in the water and sewerage sector, it remains a leader in championing a workplace culture that values wellness, motivation and empowerment.
