The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has released comprehensive statistical profiles for districts, counties/divisions, and sub counties/town councils based on data from the 2024 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC).
The release marks another step in the government’s effort to provide detailed baseline data to support decentralized planning and national development goals.
According to the statement, dated June 10, the profiles, which are clustered by sub-region, include data up to the parish level. These statistics are critical for the planning and implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and for localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The area profiles are now available to the public and can be accessed through the official UBOS website at https://www.ubos.org.
The release follows the publication of the Final Report of the 2024 Census (Volume 1) on December 31, 2024, conducted in May 2024, which was Uganda’s 11th national population count and one of the most extensive to date, incorporating digital tools to enhance accuracy and data management.
Dr. Chris Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, stated that the newly released data is intended to support “evidence-based planning, policy, and decision-making” across all levels of government.
He emphasized that the availability of this detailed information empowers local authorities, development partners, and policymakers to make informed choices in resource allocation, service delivery, and infrastructure investment.
“The profiles contain detailed baseline data and information up to the parish level,” the UBOS statement reads, adding that the data and statistics are critical for planning, localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the effective implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).”
UBOS has indicated that more thematic reports (referred to as monographs) will be released in the coming months, publications which will delve deeper into specialized areas like education, health, employment, and population dynamics, offering additional insight for sectoral planning.
The publication of these localized profiles is expected to be particularly instrumental in advancing the government’s Parish Development Model, which seeks to stimulate economic activity and reduce poverty through interventions delivered at the grassroots level.
Planners and implementers of the PDM now have access to current data on population structure, household characteristics, and basic service coverage, vital for tailoring solutions to local conditions.
With these developments, UBOS reaffirms its role as the country’s primary data custodian and a key enabler of Uganda’s Vision 2040 and NDPs. UBOS’s efforts aim to ensure that planning and policy formulation are grounded in accurate, up-to-date evidence that reflects the country’s evolving demographic and socio-economic realities.
