Saying Her Catholic Faith Abhors It, Anita Among Refuses to Reveal the Amount of Money she gave to grieving Major Kazoora’s Family at Kigo during Tuesday Vigil

Speaker Anita Among, who the widow Naome Kabasharira thanked for financially standing with the family by often contributing to medical bills, Tuesday late afternoon endured the bad nearly impassable roads of Busabala and drove to fallen NRA bush war hero Major John B Kazoora’s Kigo home to commiserate with the family.

Kazoora, who mentored many young people inside FDC including Speaker and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa, died on Easter Sunday as he rested in his bed after lunch at his Kigo home. He had been terminally ill and battled many health conditions for the last 10-15 years preceding his death.

At the Tuesday vigil where she was escorted by a group of MPs like Asuman Basalirwa, James Kakooza and a few others, Anita Among handed over money to support the funeral arrangements but refused to disclose the exact amount on the microphone making it clear that her Catholic faith abhors such ostentation especially when the recipient family is grieving.

She explained that in her Catholic faith, the left hand should be able to generously give to as many people as possible and in total confidence, without the right hand knowing what has exactly happened and how much has been given.

It was made clear that Anita Among gave her personal contribution as the head of the legislature where Naome, the widow works as MP Rushenyi County, and this was besides what was given to the Kazoora family by Anita Among’s family as a collective.

In her very brief remarks, Anita Among referred to the John Kazoora she knew and learnt a lot from during her days in FDC and recalled how the deceased was a very educative and very humorous person even in the most stressful situations. She also said he was a principled man who equally knew and loved his God.

Immediately after her speech and vaguely announcing her financial contribution, Anita Among drove out of the nice Kigo home saying she was running to catch up with something else. Saying he was unfit to invite the whole speaker of parliament to the microphone, Works & Transport Ministry Commissioner Winston Katushabe, who was the evening’s MC, signaled James Kakooza to come and invite her.

Kakooza, who proudly was on the ‘sad’ term side against which Kazoora vigorously fought only to end up losing the war to prevent the scrapping of term limits in the constitution so that Gen Museveni could run for a 3rd term during the 2005 debates, said they eventually reconciled their political differences and he ended up becoming a very good friend of Maj John Kazoora whom he said he visited many times in the hospital.

On her part, Kabasharira thanked the Speaker for all the financial support she extended to her ‘Uncle John’ which enabled them cope with medical bills which kept escalating. She also thanked her for enduring the bad roads through Busabala to physically come to Kigo and be with them which demonstrated the extent to which she is a large-hearted person who wishes everyone well.
