DP President Norbert Mao is going to stand for Looro Pece MP Seat to join the 12th Parliament on the DP ticket.
A photo that has this Saturday late evening been posted by his DP Vice President Imam Makumbi indicates that the long-serving Democratic Party President General, who twice trailed in the race for Presidency against Gen YK Museveni, has finally made up his mind.
Mao, who first joined Parliament in 1996 and did two terms and quit in 2006, originally was to rejoin Parliament in 2016 only to be frustrated by the Electoral Commission at the last minute on grounds that he had omitted to register for the National ID to authenticate his Ugandan citizenship.
Should he win, there are some power brokers in his Acholi community who are plotting to front him for the position of Speaker of Parliament to ensure that the greater Northern region continues being visible in the top echelons of government given that Alfonse Owiny-Dollo is in January going to cease to be the Chief Justice of Uganda.
They had demanded for the IGG job with Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria being their candidate but that push was unsuccessful as the appointing authority preferred someone else. The appetite among Acholis for big government positions remains high a triumphant Mao, should he win on Looro Pece, will be a hard one to contain and tame in the 12th Parliament.
